This fully beaded sculptural "crown" is the type worn by the royaly of the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria in West Africa. Traditionally only those with royal blood, connecting to the first ruler, can wear a beaded crown with a veil. Presently the right to wear these crowns is limited to approximately fifty Yoruba kings. The beads are approximately size 11/0. T are hardly any loose or missing beads on this crown. Not sure of the age but would guess that it dates sometime after 1940. The beaded part is 21 inches high, the fringe is 11 inches long and the diameter at the base is 10 inches.
