The De Havilland DH9 was a single engine day bomber which saw service in the latter part of WW1. It was based on the earlier DH4 and in effect used the same wings and tail but with a newly designed fuselage which accommodated a gunner, separately, behind the pilot. The engine did however prove to be unreliable and underpowered and resulted in heavy losses until it was replaced by the American Liberty L-12 engine which was both reliable and improved its performance. This became the DH9A. Some 4,000 DH9'S were built and after being withdrawn from front line service it was used for patrol and training. After the war some were passed on to the then Colonies and Dominions of the British Empire whilst others were sold to numerous countries including the USA and Canada. The DH9 was also used by the Expeditionary in Russia and appeared on both sides in the Russian Civil War. This kit is extensive and comprises some eight sheets of parts which include a detailed engine which was exposed, the gunners cockpit with machine gun and its extensive under wing bomb load. A full rigging diagram is also included in the extensive instructions. Decals are provided for four aircraft : No. 211 Squadron RAF, Pedre Synthe, France, flown by Captain J.A. Gray.
