Oh, how the humans love their barware and their drinkie-winkies. This is a very lovely cobalt blue lead crystal ice bucket, made by award-winning Ajka Crystal, Ltd. in Hungary. She was researching this pattern on the Ajka website - and although she could not find an exact match, it very closely resembles a pattern called "Cloyde," designed by an artist named Zsuzsa Csala. The design is very simple and geometric - the bucket is primarily cobalt blue, while the spikes and lattice cuts are clear and transparent. This pattern also bears a striking resemblance to Waterford's Lismore pattern, although that line in the cobalt blue color is very rare and hard to find. We are not sure of the age of this item, but it seems to be a discontinued pattern, and we've had it for quite a while - although rarely if ever used it! (We have gaps in our memory - due to excessive entertaining and hosting of galas back in the day.) In fact, the Ajka label is still affixed to the front: "Handmade in Hungary" "1878 Ajka Crystal" "24% PbO." This poor ice bucket hasn't hosted an ice cube in years - oh, how we used to throw those big lavish parties and oh, how our lives have changed! (Sigh...) The ice bucket measures 6 1/2 " high and the opening is 5 1/4 " in diameter. The color is gorgeous - and if you collect cobalt-colored glass, this one will fit right in! At Ajka, they seem very dedicated to their glassmaking, and all their pieces are handblown and manually ground. That's a good thing in the world of crystal. That's what she tells me. I could fit almost all of my toys in this bucket - you can use it for ice, or even a planter if you don't like ice in your drinks. I like warm milk myself. Thank you for looking! DRibBLeS the CAt
