Eisen (1790 - 1848) Japanese Woodblock reprint A Rare Opportunity- Check out these offerings. This unique combination of high quality, old reprints and fantastic provenance will not be repeated. Collect old prints with the Muller provenance and delve into the exotic world of old Japan. How were these prints done? These beautiful woodblock reprints were done exactly as the originals. An artist carved a wood block, one for each color, and hand printed each print one color at a time. These old reprints are sought after for their meticulous attention to detail and color, rivaling the originals. Unlike the brighter, souvenir prints seen on the market these fine reprints show the attention to detail and careful color choices intended to exactly replicate the old originals. Detail of this Print Akasaka, Station #37 Series; Beauties Along the 53 Stations of the Tokaido Comments- A wonderful beauty Tokaido station from Eisen's fantastic Tokaido series. In the mid 1830's, following the stunning success of Hiroshige's "53 Stations of the Tokaido," Eisen interpreted the Tokaido theme in his unique style. As an artist who was famous for beauty prints, Eisen designed this wonderful series of Tokaido scenes featuring a lovely portrait of a Japanese beauty in each of the scenes. In the background, the viewer sees the bustling activity on the Nihonbashi, a tranquil shrine scene, palanquin bearers in a small village, a spectacular view of Fuji - the landscape images are stunning views of Japan during Eisen's time. In the foreground of each print, Eisen placed a young beauty; a teastall vendor, a glamorous geisha, a young wife traveling in the foothills of Fuji and women from other various walks of life. These lovely portraits are nice examples of Eisen's mastery of the beauty subject. Reprints of this Eisen masterwork series are very difficult to come by these days. Prints from this series are an excellent choice for the collector looking for quintessentially Japanese images. Combining the wonderful 19th century Japanese background scenery with the portrait of a classic Japanese beauty, these prints capture both the landscape and beauty element of the early 19th century Japanese masters. Either singly or in groups, these wonderfully unique prints make a knonckout display in any room. Also, a great opportunity for a collector interested in Eisen's Tokaido stations. You just won't find them elsew! Bid now. Artist & Signature- Eisen (1790 - 1848)Size- 10" x 14 1/2" + margins as shown Provenance and our guarantee- Robert O.
