ALASKA MINT OFFICIAL STATE MEDALLION 1994 GRIZZLY FROM THE ONLY COMPANY THAT MINTS ALL THE OFFICIAL STATE OF ALASKA SILVER & GOLD MEDALLIONS ANNUAL DATED STATE MEDALLION SERIES BEGAN IN 1989 with authorization to mint granted by the Alaska legislature in 1988 ( AS 44.09.017.) IN 1992 THE ALASKA MINT WAS AWARDED EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS TO CREATE ALASKA's ONLY LEGISLATED STATE MEDALLION WITH THE EXCLUSIVE USE OF THE STATE SEAL OF ALASKA ON THE REVERSE (designed in 1884 and modified in 1911)Each Year a contest is held for selecting the design to be used in the following years Medallion mintage. The winning design of the Alaskan Brown Bear (Grizzly) was submitted by Artist Ira Levinton of Anchorage, Alaska Wonderful detailed design depicting the Alaskan BROWN BEAR, an animal that grows to enormous size on Kodiak Island, Ak and can be found in most all wooded areas with salmon streams across Alaska. The mirrored fields and sharp frosty relief is another testament to the fine Workmanship exhibited at the ALASKA MINT in Anchorage, AK.
