This is a true Alaskan Native treasure. This is a beautiful Walrus tusk ivory carved Kayak scene, mounted on a very thick piece is highly polished whale baleen. The piece mounted on the base is an artifact from an ivory sled runner. The ivory is very fossilized. Just this artifact along is extremely valuable. The kayaker hunter is carved and signed as shown below by Alaskan Native "KUV" Tuntutuliak , a Yupik Eskimo. This piece measures 6 inches in length, the kayaker measures 5 3/4 inches. The kayaker and kayak is carved from soild walrus ivory and it is so detailed, you have to see it to believe it. The face is carved from fossil ivory, making it look so real, you will expect the man to move. The paddle is baleen. The backside of the kayak, has mounted a sled, also carved from ivory, with the tote placed on top of the sled. This scene represents as realistic a piece of Alaskan Native art as you will ever find.
