Botanicals in lacquered Japanese album inscribed 'Painted by Wm. Alfred Wrottsley, at Hong Kong, 1895-96, of flowers named by Sir Joseph Hooker & butterflies native to Hong Kong, lent me by Curator of Museum'. Wrottsley (1863-1899) was the eldest son of the 3rd Baron of Wrottsley, died the year he returned to England from illness contracted in Hong Kong. Hooker was the greatest British Botanist of the 19th C., this collection is preserved in an inlaid lacquered album, the front cover is off but present, approx (8) are double sided, some on silver paper, each identified with latin name, 13 3/4'' x 10'' sheets, the paintings are in fine condition. From a Hope, Maine home.
