Buyer pays $10 U.S. shipping via USPS Priority Mail. Alex Katz is one of America's leading painters. His work has been the subject of nearly 200 solo exhibitions since 1954. His portraits and landscapes capture American life in a flat, elegant and realistic style all his own. Now 83, Katz is receiving increased attention with recent solo exhibitions in Milan, Paris, Finland, Grenoble and New York. Katz is best known for his images of individuals and groups, usually portrayed in social gatherings, that evoke a fashionable moneyed mileau and are rendered in a cool flattened style. His paintings are marked by a simplified line that emphasises forms and colours set against flat backgrounds. He began making figurative paintings in the late 1950's when their iconic quality and emotional distance was totally against the grain of the emotionally heightened and gestural works of the Abstract Expressionists.
