Alexander Conrad, New Geneva, Eagle Crock Up for auction is this beautiful 3 Gallon Jar made by A CONRAD, NEW GENEVA, FAYETTE CO., PA . This is the mark of Alexander Conrad who ran a pottery on Ford Street in New Geneva from 1870 to 1882. This fine jar was made about the time of the nation's centennial in 1876 when eagles were popular as decoration. From top to bottom this jar has a band of cobalt at the top that wraps around the handles. The main decoration is in a circle with the name and address of the pottery framing a very fine EAGLE in the middle. He is holding three arrows in one talon and a branch in the other. Rose garlands accent the bottom on both sides with four roses in full bloom. A star is found on each side fo the eagle's wings. The stenciling is all complete, particularly the eagle w every feather is distinct. Nice light gray background to accent the decoration. Stands 14" tall. Excellent Condition. A 3/8" chip on the top of the left handle. A very fine, nearly invisible 2" hairline from the rim down to the flange on the upper left back. A small glaze rub to the left of the eagle's head.
