Alfred Philippe Signed Trifari Bird of Paradise Brooch This wonderful Bird of Paradise Pin is featured in the 2002 book written by Carla and Roberto Brunialti - A Tribute to America - Costume Jewelry 1935-1950.On Page 97 their bird photographed has blue and red feathers. I have seen this pin in three versions and I have always preferred my own pin with green to blue wing feathers and vibrant red, yellow and green long tail feathers because this one most resembles an exotic colorful tropical bird you would expect to find in a rain forest. The third version is less colorful in a simple goldtone with clear rhinestones. The wings are painted dark green adjacent to the fine border detail of rhinestones and then blend to dark blue on the outer portion of the wings. The elongated tail feathers also blend from a bright red to yellow to green and alternate with long single rows of clear pave rhinestones. The entire pin is multi dimensional starting with the pave body of the bird in a convex shape. Even the overlapping tail feathers have a rounded shape. T is one inch between the height of the wings. The total length wing tip to tail feather - top to bottom is 4 inches and the width is over 2 inches across the widest point. All the rhinestones appear to be original with no new replaced or bright stones intruding on the vintage patina developed over 66 years. T is a beautiful cabochon red rhinestone eye that matches the red enamel crest on the top of the head. The yellow beak also matches the claws grasping the perch. The rhodium plated backing is in excellent condition for considering the age of the pin. The tight pin clip is clearly signed Trifari with the crown above the T. Des. Pat No. 127329 appears on the wing. It is a very solid pin with much heft when held in your hand.
