This is an exquisite sterling silver clamper cuff bracelet that was handwrought in Taxco, Mexico, after 1948, by renowned silver maestro, Alfredo Villasana. AV was a highly talented and accomplished silver maestro. He worked with William Spratling at Taller de Las Delicias and later, for Hector Aguilar at Taller Borda , before going out on his own. This bracelet is masterfully crafted in an elegantly classic design. The silver repousse work is spectacular with a perfect combination of flowing scroll flourishes. The recesses of the designs are oxidized which lends depth and dimension to this piece. The style of this bracelet is known as a clamper cuff. If you pull the two front pieces apart and let go, it "clamps" shut. This clamper is eternally elegant. Crafted with amazing artistic details that are rarely seen so perfectly executed in vintage Mexican jewelry. This is an ALFREDO VILLASANA art-to-wear masterpiece. Clean and ready to wear. 'Spots' are camera/light reflections. Fully hallmarked: Taxco AV (conjoined), Hecho en Mexico Sterling 925, Villasana, Eagle assay #3. Alfredo Villasana's hallmark is shown on pages 210-211 of Bille Hougart's highly respected source book, The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks (2006 edition).
