Alice's Adventures: Original, and earlier variant light blue pastedowns and endpapers with 'Burn' bindery ticket to rear pastedown. Small inscription to fep (see image), clean unmarked, undamaged pages throughout, with the inverted 'S' to last line of contents page. Top edge gilt, original publisher's red cloth boards, spine tips professionally restored / strengthened and, unusually, no splitting or cracking to hinges - scarce thus. Through the Looking Glass: Green pastedowns and endpapers with the 'Burn' bindery ticket to rear pastedown. No inscriptions, clean, undamaged and unmarked throughout - earliest state with miss-print 'Wade' instead of 'Wabe' to page 21. Also loosely inserted inside is the original three page message 'to all child readers of Alice's Adventures from Lewis Carroll'. Unusually, there is no splitting or cracking to the hinges. Covers are original red cloth, top edge gilt, spine tips have been professionally restored / strengthened. A near fine copy. SIGNED BY JOHN TENNIEL - illustrator of the book (1820-1914), on loosely inserted letter reading 'all's well that ends well !!!!'. Please contact us for further images or information.
