HelloYou are bidding on a painting by the well known American artist Allan Houser 1914-1994 .The painting is signed in the left hand corner Allan Houser with a squiggle under the name.The painting is in good condition and measures approx: 20" x 24" and the frame measures approx: 24" x 29".The painting is painted on artists board and I believe that the painting is a gouache.The painting is so well painted I like the way Allan has used swirls of color to represent the sand rising at the feet of the horses.The painting is of two Apache warriors.I have taken pictures with a flash and without for you to see.Allan Houser's great uncle was the famous Apache Geronimo. is a little biographical information that I found online.If you have any questions or if you need any other information or pictures please do not hesitate to contact me .Thank You and Happy Bidding!Please see my other items !Please add me to your favorites list ! Allan Houser ( June 29 , 1914 - August 22 , 1994 ) was one of the most renowned Native American painters and Modernist sculptors of the 20th century. Born of the Warm Springs Chiricahua Apache tribe of Oklahoma , U.S. , Houser's work can be found at the United Nations building in New York City , at the US National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. and in other public buildings throughout our nation's capitol. Fromhumble beginnings came a man who took on two of the great conversations of his time âe" the Native American experience, and the challenges posed by abstract modernism âe" and forged a new way of seeing both visions.Allan Houser died in Santa Fe, New Mexico at the age of eighty in August of 1994 after a life made monumental by the paintings, drawings, and sculptures created according to his own unique vision of both Native and Modernist art. He was fortunate to have been the kind of artist who did not need to be âeoediscoveredâe after his death, for he enjoyed a career in which he was able to create not just for his own satisfaction, but for an appreciative public as well.Upon his death, the honors kept coming. Among these was the installation of nineteen monumental works of art in Salt Lake City during the 2002 Olympics, and a retrospective of 69 works at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.in 2004-2005. The exhibition marked the first major show for the new Museum, and over three million people viewed it while it was on display.And as a teacher for most of his working life, Allan Houser also enjoys the legacy of having passed on his direction, patience and skills to generations of Native American artists, including many from the IAIA years who are, in turn, passing on their skills to other generations.After Houser's passing in 1994, his legacy has been carried on by various family and hired employees: The first and most prominent has been Phillip Haozous; Allan's third born son who is also well known in the Native American art genre. Bob Haozous, also a well known Native American political artist, currently runs the non-profit Allan Houser Foundation which is devoted to the proliferation of the Houser name. Numerous people have been in charge of the for-profit aspect of the business since Mr. Houser's passing including grandson Sam Haozous (aka Sam Atakra) and English transplant Kim Bourne, who is the current CEO of the company.
