" Spec-Tacticals: Custom Knifemaker Allen Elishewitz's Spectacular Tacticals Offer Practical Design and Innovative Construction" from American Handgunner Jan '02

Allen Elishewitz makes the finest custom knives, titanium watches and handmade pens. Collectors from all over the world seek after his works of art. ... A former Force Recon Marine and practitioner of martial arts, started producing knives in 1988. It wasn't long after that Allen's talents were discovered. ... Elishewitz knows from the ground level the application of ... well known for making quite unique folding knives with profiles and blade shapes that are artistic in nature and ...

Since the original Rolox® was invented in 1975 by Blackie Collins, it has been an expensive cult knife that attracted an enthusiastic following. Unfortunately, production was very limited. After reaching an agreement with Rolox to manufacture the concept as a true production knife, we asked brilliant young Texas custom knifemaker Allen Elishewitz to redesign the original classic. The result was a production knife that has the smoothest Rolox action ever, with an entirely new look, and a price that put it in any pocket or purse. Allen improved the blade shape, handle design, and added a custom stainless steel clip. To show how this sliding "folder" works, two models with translucent acrylic scales with an engine-turned pattern are offered.

But the visual appeal is only part of the story. The trick is to achieve such tight manufacturing tolerances that opening and closing action is both smooth and sound. Thanks to CNC machining and exceptional quality control, we have achieved what Bill Adams, President of the Rolox Corporation, calls, "The slickest Rolox action I ever saw--much smoother than the old handmade ones-- and at a fraction of the price!"

What you get is not a toy, but a quality cutting tool, with a mirror polished frame of 420J2 stainless steel and a 3 1./2" blade of AUS 6 stainless steel. The drop point blade is taper ground, mirror polished with a Razor-Sharp edge.

The clip is also mirror polished 420J2 stainless steel, which can be clipped on pocket or belt, or used as a money clip. Or add a split ring and you have a truly unique key fob. The Rollock weighs only 2.3 ounces.

One-hand opening is as simple as pressing at the base of the blade and sliding the blade open. Click! A rigid lockup. Aggressive friction grooves make it easy. To close, just press the blade lock, let the blade slide back, and press the blade in place until it locks closed. Click! A strong spring keeps the blade closed.

Our new Rollock proves several things. First, that a great folding knife doesn't have to fold, and second, that owning a precision tool doesn't require taking out a second mortgage.
