Latin Mass Altar CardsVersion IIYou are looking at a new set of Chapel Size Altar Cards for the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. These are prints transferred to wood. They measure 11 x 15 1/4 in. for the center card and 11 x 6 1/4 in. for the Gospel and Epistle side cards. The pictures are the actual set for sale. This set is on a poplar wood with natural wood trim. The image is sealed 3-4 times and the trim and back have been varnished as well.Please note that while the text is crisp and bold, nonetheless it is on a wood background (not bright white paper) and the print is not as huge as the typical large ones you find in many Churches. Of the three versions available, Version I has the largest print because there is less artwork and it also has more prayers (see below for descriptions of the three versions available). If you do not see the set listed that you are interested in, it is probably because I sold that set and am in the process of making a new set. Feel free to contact me with any questions.DEFECTIBUS: Some random distress (see photos) around the Annunciation scene and the wood I used was a little bit bowed - this is noticeable when you lay the center card down on a flat surface: I just put up two photos so you can see that when 3 corners are touching the flat surface one corner sticks up a little less than half the size of a dime.Thank you for looking. God bless you!Version IVersion IIVersion IIIEach set of altar cards is a unique work for a variety of reasons.Wood transfer method : Like a fingerprint, each piece of wood is wholly unique in the grain. With wood transfer (unlike matting a print) the altar cards are actually "printed" on the wood and sealed with 3-4 coats of varnish. The grain of the wood can be seen especially in the areas where the colors are absent (white sections) or are lighter. This gives a very warm feel to the cards.Distressed image : When transferring the image to the wood there is always some minimal distress that results from the transfer method. This gives the cards an antique feel. No altar cards will be sold if the distress ruins an image or words or letters are missing.Made with prayer : I make these in the solitude of my chaplain's quarters praying as I work. The images are prepared and chosen because they inspire me to pray and I hope that it will inspire others to pray as well.3 versions available :Version I - This print features Christ Crucified with two Angels for the center card; the Annunciation for the Epistle side; St. John the Evangelist contemplating the Most Holy Trinity for the Gospel side. Because this print has less artwork than the other two versions the print is larger and more prayers are on the cards. In addition to the standard prayers there are the two prayers ( Aufer a nobis and Oramus Te Domine ) which the priest says while ascending to the altar and the prayer during the purification of the chalice at the Epistle side ( Corpus Tuum ). This set is ideal for priests who are learning the Tridentine Mass, celebrate it infrequently or who just need larger print. Version II - This print has gorgeous illustrations of the Last Supper, the Crucifixion including the Sorrowful Mother and St. John, and the Resurrection for the center card; the Annunciation for the Epistle side; the Nativity for the Gospel side. Although the text is crisp and bold, the letters are smaller due the size of the illustrations. This has all of the standard prayers found on most altar cards. Version III - This is a French gothic print dated 1932. The ornate gothic highlights coupled with the artwork highlighting the Paschal Mystery (Garden of Gethsemani, Passion and Resurrection) make this an inspiring set both for the faithful and the celebrant. Missing are the three prayers of the priest just before Holy Communion ( Domine Iesu Christe, Domine Iesu Christe, Perceptio Corporis ) which are found on most altar cards, but which are readily available to the priest in the Missal.
