It was used in more professional applications than any other speaker of its day, from recording studios to movie theaters and anything in between. If you are considering these speakers, I can say without a doubt, some of your favorite music was recorded and mixed using Altec Lansing 604's. The 604 was introduced by Altec Lansing in 1944 with many variations to follow. The 604E was available during the mid-to-late 1960's and was succeeded by newer variants until the line was discontinued by Altec in 1998. Some time after this, the tools and plans were purchased by a few surviving employees who weren't ready to put it down.
