This SUT was hand built by me and used in my own system for the past six months. It is a standard plastic box with high-quality components. RCAs are gold-plated, Tube sockets are NOS, wiring is teflon covered silver-coated copper wire. In my system t is no hum. I do not use the ground-post on the box. I ground the TT and the cartridge wiring directly to the preamp. The ground post is strictly optional and to be used only if you have some quirky ground-scheme. Note that under normal circumstances (ground lifted) the switch is NOT in the circuit. The 15095 provides about 10 times signal gain or about 20dB. This is just about a perfect match for the Denon 103. I would NOT use it for some early Ortofon cartridges that have extremely low output and that want a lower impedance match. I think this will also work well for the Shelter 501 and other Shelter LO MC cartridges. Note: This box will also work with the similar (but not the same!) Altec Peerless 15095A transformer. If you win the auction, I can substitute a pair of the A units, if you think that is something you prefer, at no extra charge. How do these sound? In my opinion, this is one of the best step-up options you can choose for the Denon 103. As good or better than the vastly more expensive Altec 4722. Better than the CineMag.
