Wonderful early 20th century "SLOW CHILDREN" sign- pressed steel, raised edge, very oxidized surface, 18"x 24". The steel sign has no breaks or bends An amazing repaint was done on this sign well over 50 years ago- i'm told in the era of Jackie Robinson, as a local tribute to the great African-American ball player who broke the color barrier in baseball. Whether it remained as a street sign at the time, or was kept as a piece of folk-art remains a mystery. This sign is admittedly very rusty, but somehow the old repaint against the rust just adds to the great character and feel of this unusual piece. Please see my other auctions for more unusual street signs..
