Description: Size: 7.5" wide and 3.5" deep Weight: 2 lbs 5.3 oz Origin: Nepal Retail: over $450 Up for auction is this lovely old Tibetan Singing bowl with amazing long lasting tone. It has lovely dark hammer mark groves with beautiful greenish patina. The surface of this bowl is very smooth and its walls are thick which enables it to make long lasting multiple harmonic tones. The vibration on this bowl is breath taking, you can feel the tremor pass through your body when you hit it with gong. It also sings easily and melodiously. Suitable for both gonging and rubbing. Amazing piece!Chakra associated with the note of this bowl is the Anahata or the heart chakra. It is related to complex emotion, compassion, love, equilibrium and well-being. It is related to the thymus, located in the chest. The thymus is an element of the immune system as well as being part of the endocrine system. It produces T cells responsible for fending off disease and may be adversely affected by stress. Symbolised by a lotus with twelve petals. Rather than hanging inverted or attached to a handle, standing bells sit with the bottom surface resting. The sides and rim of the bell vibrate to produce sound. Singing bowls were traditionally used throughout Asia as part of Bön, Buddhist, Ngagpa and shamanic meditation practice. Today they are used worldwide for meditation, relaxation, healthcare and mystical and religious practice.How To Play Singing Bowl:Start by holding your bowl in the palm of your left hand (right if you are left handed) The very bottom of the bowl should be the only part of the bowl touching your hand so the body of the bowl is allowed to vibrate freely. With a wooden mallet or whatever mallet you are using, slowly start rubbing the outside rim in a clockwise circular motion, keeping an even and constant pressure on the edge of the bowl. Sometimes it is helpful to gently strike the bowl before you start the rubbing motion.
