This is the first of three in a series of train wreck stereoviews I'm putting on Ebay for sale today. Together they form an AMAZING three stereoview set of an incredible train wreck by Immke of Princeton, Illinois. They are all dated circa 1870-1880. The train is totalled. It may be a set of photos of two trains that had a head on collision. In this first one, t are men standing everyw -- on top of the train, near the train, on the platform next to the train, and some are sitting on the train. In the foreground, for some unknown reason, the photographer H. W. Immke has placed in the foreground a young boy wearing an odd hat with his hands folded and with his back to the train wreck -- as if nothing has happened. The markings on the train are S.150 and the letter W within a hexagon. T's something else, but I can't read it. This one and the other two I listed today are together a wonderful document of early transportation and its hazards in America in its early days -- before computers, signals and switch tracks were able to prevent (or at least minimize) this kind of disaster. The content of this image is amazing. You can look at it with a magnifier for long periods of time and keep finding more details you missed. If you're into trains, this set of three is for you.
