An original untouched American 19th Century primitive folk art painting in oil on wood panel. The slightly bowed panel measures approx. 13 3/4 x 20 in. and is approx 1/2 in thick. The artist has depicted a stormy coastal scene with a rocky outcrop, lightning, and a sailing ship with it's canvas down. The artist has labeled the scene in a very precise hand along the lower edge of the panel "CHIMNEY ROCK LAKE SUPERIOR." "Chimney" has been nearly worn away. T are two inscriptions verso in script. The first near the top reads "Thomas Birch." The second more boldly reads "For Herbert in remembrance of Grandpa Birch." This is a very attractive and precisely rendered painting in the tradition of high quality American folk art. The painting has not been cleaned or varnished. T are scattered scratches and areas of rubbing as pictured. Two sets of screw holes on the back, one hole of which has breached the surface of the painting. Guaranteed to be as described. If not satisfied return within 7 days of receipt for refund of purchase price, less shipping.Shipping: I ship via USPS Priority Mail within the US. This allows for insurance if desired by the buyer. All INTERNATIONAL shipping will be via USPS Air Priority International fully insured only! This allows for complete coverage and tracking.
