You are viewing an original vintage American Airlines travel poster or advertising poster. I believe the airplane flying through the steer heads above the oil derricks, or drilling rigs, and the Texas skyline to be a Lockheed Electra. The poster shows 4 large Texas Longhorns and the background in black ink against the brown are drawings of the Texas skyline, Texas oil rigs, The state flower of Texas , tall pines (wow...I lived in Texas 10 years and don't quite remember tall pines...maybe t are two t and that's why they made it in the poster ), Texas refineries, etc. Date circa 1950's to 1960Artist: Joseph Charles Parker (1924- )Size 30 x 40 inchesSubject TEXASColors: brown, red, off-white or cream, yellow, gray, light pastel blue, dark navy blue, black. Condition: see photos... the main part of the poster, or center is good condition with no folds however the outside edges has some tears as you can see in the photos and all the edges around the outside of the poster are in rough shape. The 1 inch boarder around the poster has a section of missing boarder. part of it towards the bottom left side, I layed next to the poster to show w it goes. You can see in the photos that the edges are rough. The edges can be restored and it would increase value to have this mounted on linen. I tucked in the 1 inch boarder for 1 of the photos so you get an idea of how it would look framed so look for the picture wtihout the white boarder. What you see in the corners are tiny weights holding the poster open. Any restoration process can fix rips. I took lots of photos so please examine the close-up photo of the bottom edge showing some sort of water marks or stains. I am starting the bidding very low in hopes of getting a reasonable and fair price in accordance to the condition of this rare poster even though as you will find in some researched links that I provided below, the value in very good condition, or restored condition is $1100-$1200.00. I never sell posters so hopefully the condition will be better than you expected upon inspection in person. The photos are true to color and close ups show the damaged edges. It's the only one on the internet right now currently for sale so I think this condition is better than paying $1200.00 after waiting years for a perfect one to appear, if t are any perfect ones out t Good luck! Parker graduated from the Manhattan School of Aviation Trades before entering the Navy. After his discharge from the military, he worked on a cattle ranch in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, as well as designing window displays in the late-1940s for Franklin Simon on 5th Avenue in New York City.
