Charles Augustus Lindbergh ( 4 February 1902 - 26 August 1974 ), known as "Lucky Lindy" and "The Lone Eagle," was an American pilot famous for the first solo, non-stop flight across the Atlantic , from Roosevelt Field, Long Island to Paris in 1927 in the " Spirit of St. Louis ." In the ensuing deluge of notoriety, Lindbergh became the world's best-known aviator.In the years prior to World War II , Lindbergh was a noted isolationist , and was a leader in the America First Committee to keep the U.S. out of the coming war. Nevertheless, he flew combat missions in the Pacific Theater as a consultant. In later years, Lindbergh took an active role in the environmental movement. Charles Lindbergh is a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor
