American Brilliant Cut Glass CUT-TO-CLEAR 10" Pitcher

Folks, ...... is a great example of American Cut-To-Clear craftsmanship in a book-pictured 10 " pitcher. You will see 5 images including the shot on page 77 of the Boggess book called Collecting A B C G. of this exact piece. The motif is brilliantly cut rows of graduated hobstars and fine crosshatching with rows of graduated diamonds with cut stars. The top is scalloped with a cut spout and the handle is honeycomb cut. One image will show the rayed-star cut base. The base measures 5 1/2 inches w it flares out to the fullest. Condition is pristine. No chips cracks or inperfections. Spout is perfect as is the handle with no cracks or annealing marks. The piece is perfect. Good weight at a little over 3 1/2 pounds. Cut to clear was only done for a few years around the turn of the century. The blanks were hard to make layering two colors of glass and when it came to cutting the foreman or most experienced cutter generally did the work. Broken or damaged clear glass could be salvaged by putting it back in the furnace - but nothing with color on it could be saved. Costs were high and the sales didn't warrent the extra cost or care. It is estimated that only one peice out of a thousand was done in color to clear and that figure is conservative in my oppinion. Folks, if you are going to invest in cut glass then bid on pieces put on eBay by sellers who proudly say they are members of the American Cut Glass Association and who subscribe to their code of ethics.
