You are bidding on a cut glass ewer cut by J. Hoare. The spount is fluted and notched. The handle is cut with two columns of punties down the backside. The entire ewer is extensively cut. The front has a long pointed loop cut with two crosshatched triangles and 2-12point hobstars inside it. T are also two section with a can cut with clear buttons above the 16-point hobstar and two reverse fans. The loop is outlined with natched beading. Each side of the ewer is cut with 16-point hobstar at the top, followed by 2 smaller 15-point hobstars and three sets of two crosshatched triangles. The bottom of this column is cut with a larger 24-point hobstar. T is zipper notching on either side of the handle at the back. Below the handle in the back is a section filled with nailhead diamonds and four fans. T is also a 16-point hobstar sections of cane with clear bottoms cut on either side. The base is cut with a large 24-point hobstar. J. Hoare & Company operated out of Corning, NY between 1853-1920. They were known as a pioneer in glass cutting and were one of the leading producers of rich cut glass during the American Brilliant Period. This blank is shown on page 136 of the book "Rarities in American Cut Glass" by Wiener and Lipkowitz. This piece was purchased on eBay in 2002 on a reserve for $1750.
