This is an American Brilliant period cut glass fruit bowl measuring 11-3/4" long x 4-1/2" high x 7-3/4" wide with a weight of about 4-1/2 pounds. I have looked for the maker, retailer picture, anything, for at least two years with nothing other than variations of this pattern found. Maybe it is in a book or catalog I don't have; some cutting companies did not have catalogs; many catalogs and advertisements of known companies have yet to be rediscovered; along with discovery of who knows how many previously unknown cutting companies. This is a large, very brilliant and flashy piece but is not perfect. Photo 9 shows a chip on a tooth on the inside surface of the bowl with a small amount of tooth height having been lost t Looking for the chip to photograph it, I had to feel for it as it is hard to see. The two other chips pictured are smaller and on the outside or cut side of the teeth. T are five small nicks to pinpricks to the four 24-point hobstars on the sides. The step cutting high up on one of the long ends has a couple of nicks. The nailhead diamond and cross-hatched motifs cut on the bottom of the bowl have protected it from signs of wear. So, it is not a perfect piece but still a stunning and, by the way, rings like a church bell. I've knocked on it with a knuckle, not hit it with anything, literally sounds like a church bell. read more
