That's the only flaw in this outstanding, rare, early Victorian, micro mosaic brooch. This was made around 1860. The design features an elborate mounting with granulation and scroll work. The mosaic area depicts the American Eagle with it's wings spread and holding 3 arrows in it's claws. The bird is sitting on a branch with blue and green leaves and white and red flowers. The overall length of the brooch is 2.5 inches. The back is solid and t's a little wear to the gold metal. The frame may be solid 14K gold. I haven't had it tested but t's no wear. The pin is sturdy and straight and locks into a tube shaped closure. This is clearly going to be the highlight of any collection. I believe it to be an American made piece. Most of these were from Italy. My wife is cleaning out her jewelry boxes. Please continue to watch my auctions for more from her personal collection.
