American Flyer 718 New Haven Operating Mail Pickup CarYou are bidding on an American Flyer 718 New Haven Operating Mail Pickup Car. This car was in a box lot of train stuff I bought and when I got it, it had no couplers and all of the wheels were plastic which of course would not allow it to operate. Also the body was separated from the frame and the one wire was broken off of the wheel pickup rivet. I soldered the wire back on to the rivet, cleaned up the car, put two other wheel combinations on the one truck so that it has two metal wheels to pickup power, put four brass screws in to fasten the body to the frame, and added knuckle couplers. Originally it would have had link couplers. I will include a set of link couplers and pins in case you want them, but I don’t have the tool to crimp the pins to the metal arms. I would describe it as being in good to very good condition. It has the plastic unpainted body on a heavy plastic frame which would indicate it was the earliest 1946 version. The red plastic body shows some warpage which may be visible in the pictures of the sides. My Standard Catalog of American Flyer trains by David Doyle states "the earliest of these cars had an unpainted red body with a red painted mail pickup arm and plastic frame.
