This auction is a consignment from one of our clients that we sell for. Item up for auction is an American Flyer O-scale 2-4-2 steam engine but there is NO TENDER. Engine is diecast, it is very heavy, and it has the initials of A.F. near the front on the side of the engine below the smoke stack and the number under the cab window of #420. I tried testing the engine. Motor humms, it partially turns over then it stops. It has been in storage for a long time. This is a PRE-WAR ENGINE as researched by me and other train buffs who have either listed or sold this engine on the internet. There is some damage on he roof of the cab on the right side near the back corner. Engine has brass hand rails and copper short smoke stack, domes and pipping off of the top and sides of the engine above the drivers. There is some patina on the copper and there is some rust on the sets of driver rods on both sides. Wheel wear is bad on the front and rear trucks. Driving wheels do not look that bad. This engine is designed for 3 rail operation as the copper contacts on the underside of the engine are there and the drivers sit on the two outside rails. Why the engine I can not explain and neither can the owner as this is such an old engine. The term Pre-War refers to before the World War II, Engine has a very large all solid metal weight under the cab. As read more
