Please read the entire listing carefully and also please review all of the photos as they are considered part of the overall description of the listing!!

This listing is for a vintage item or items and unless stated otherwise is offered and sold “as-is”. As a collector for over 35 years and a longtime member of the TCA and NASG, while I try to follow the TCA grading standards for my listings, grading is also a very subjective matter and I also described this listing from what I consider to be a reasonable person's perspective. As a result, buyers are encouraged to ask questions prior to bidding as all bids are binding. Please note that these grading standards make no claims about the train's operational capabilities. If the listing states that a test run was performed, it means the loco was briefly bench tested to ensure that the motor (and headlight if applicable) work and that the unit moves. Sound systems (horns, whistles, etc.), smoke units and other operating parts and systems are not tested unless the listing states otherwise.

Up for bid is an original American Flyer (by A.C. Gilbert) 5542-H set its original set box. According to Greenberg's Guide to American Flyer S Gauge (Volume III) this set includes everything except the illustrated train booklet. The train set included in the set is a pair of Texas and Pacific (American Flyer Lines) GP7s along with 6 freight cars. The set includes a powered GP-7 Diesel Engine, a non-powered GP-7 Diesel Engine, along with a 922 box car, 929 stock car, 926 triple dome tank car, 921 hopper with coal load, 920 gondola and 977 illuminated action caboose. Most of the pieces show only minimal wheel wear. All train boxes have their end flaps and their inner, side flaps. SInce the 8 pieces that comprise the train set range from "Excellent +" (E+) to "Like-New" and the other set accessories and set box are in fabulous condition, I would grade the entire set somewhere in between "E+" and "Like-New". All items come in their original factory boxes!

This set was originally purchased for my personal collection back in October, 1988. I had the opportunity to purchase this set from the late Bill Jackson. For those of you that knew Bill, he was one of the major players in the hobby. Bill had graded the set as "Like-New". After purchasing and inspecting the set, I stored the set in the original boxes where it has remained since then.

"E+" number 375 Powered T&P (American Flyer Lines) GP7. The unit It has minor rub on roof of cab and a very small flake of paint missing on end of handrail. It includes both the original carton and the original corrogated shipping wrapper (as can be seen in the photo above). I bench tested this unit. Both headlights work as expected and the diesel ran both forward and in reverse. The e-unit seemed to work well. Since the set has not been used in many years, the purchaser might want to perform a general cleaning and lubrication on the unit if he/she plans on running it. "Like-New" number 374 non-powered T&P (American Flyer Lines) GP7. This diesel unit is very clean. It also includes both the original carton and the original corrogated shipping wrapper (as can be seen in the photo above). The original owner place a piece of masking tape over the part number on the carton, but if you look closely, you can see through the masking tape and see "1-375 DIESEL SWITCHER". I also bench tested this unit. Only one of the headlights illuminated. I decided to NOT replace the other bulb in the event that the purchaser would prefer to keep (what I assume is) the original bulb in the unit. I did NOT test the diesel horn. "Like-New" number 929 Missouri Pacific Stock Car. Tuscan painted, plastic body, with one-piece brakewheel, Type I sheet metal frame, black sintered-iron truck frames and knuckle couplers. Comes in its original factory box (very clean box). "E+" number 922 GAEX Box Car. Green painted, plastic body, with one-piece brakewheel, Type I sheet metal frame, wit...
