AMERICAN FLYER 31005 HUDSON & TENDER
Th engine ran quite well in a bench check, but it should be lubricated before any extended use. Both pick ups are in the tender. According to Doyle, this engine has smoke which I could not check, but no whistle. There is no unusual rectangular box installed above the center driver, similar to the one in the numbered 31006 I have in a concurrent auction. I suspect that this piece is a 31005 without the whistle. Check it out, all comments are welcome. I have no place to run H-O so all I can verify is that the motor runs quite well, even without being lubricated. The only real damage was where someone re-painted the tender, and the number under the cab window. I found no other chips, cracks, or large scratches, and the physical appearance of the rest of the 2 units meets the TCA/ebay definition of C-5 good.
NOTE: I HAVE A SUBSTANCIAL AMOUNT OF H-O IN CONCURRENTLY RUNNING AUCTIONS
From a 35 year collector standpoint, nobody knows it all. From a dealer standpoint, I do my best to give an accurate description. I check all pieces for operation, unless otherwise stated. If a piece will function or just needs cleaning, because of the myriad of cleaners, lubricants, and techniques, I leave that up to the next owner, especially on more desirable collectors items. If the item does not function, or it is a complete set to run, I will clean and lubricate it, noting the lubricant used. My customary lubricant is WD40, which usually only requires another spray application, when the piece operates sluggishly. It can, however, be easily removed with a spray tuner cleaner, and minute drops of lubricant can be applied to each bearing surface. My reason for using this particular lubricant, is that it enhances conduction at electric contacts, and even after it dries, it forms a rust inhibiting coat. I do occasionally miss a flaw or neglect to add some pertinent detail. Don't wait to the last minute to email a question or comment. If you are dissatisfied in any way perhaps a mutually agreeable adjustment can be made. NOTE: I try to get every sale in the mail on the day following payment, and if possible, and I notify the recipient of its actual or pending posting. I always use delivery confirmation, so if your piece doesn't show up in a week, check the delivery confirmation, or send me an email. I have had a few cases where delivery has been attempted, and the piece has been returned to the post office. DON'T WAIT. I assume no liability for loss, once the auction is placed in the hands of the shipper. Whenever feasible, multiple purchases will be combined for cost reduction. I will provide you with an invoice showing the combined weights. Postage will be actual cost.
