ANOTHER TRAIN HIGHLIGHT FOR EBAY FOR THIS WEEK IS THE SCARCE POST-WAR AMERICAN FLYER SET 5542-H, CALLED “THE NEW SUNSHINE SPECIAL FREIGHT SET”! THIS SET IS ONE OF THE RAREST YOU WILL FIND IN THIS CONDITION, WITH THE HIGHEST GRADE BOXES THAT I HAVE SEEN. THE SET IS NEAR-MINT TO MINT, AND THE ROLLING STOCK CARS ARE NEAR-MINT TO MINT. THE ENGINE AND TENDER ARE TEST-RUN AT MOST, AS ARE THE CARS. MOST DEALERS WOULD CALL THIS A MINT SET AT THE SHOWS! THE AMERICAN FLYER SET 5542-H WAS MADE IN 1955 ONLY, AND IT HAS GRADE 10 ENGINE BOXES. THE SET IS THE FAMOUS “S” GAUGE THAT AMERICAN FLYER WAS FAMOUS FOR. THIS MAGNIFICENT LARGE SET COMES WITH TWO TEXAS AND PACIFIC DIESEL ENGINES. THE SET CAME WITH THE 374 GP-7 ENGINE and THE 375 GP-7 ENGINE. THE SET HAS THE SCARCE AND DESIRABLE PRISTINE 977 AUTOMATED CONDUCTOR ILLUMINATED CABOOSE THAT LOOKS MINT! VERY RARE!!!! THIS CAR IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND IN THIS HIGH-GRADE CONDITION! Trains are in MINT TO NEAR-MINT condition, with original boxes. Spectacular high-grade pieces of American Flyer’s desirable series “S” gauge of engines with high-grade rare original boxes! THE ENGINES HAVE THE STRAIGHT GLOSS BLACK FRAMES, BLACK BODIES AND ORANGE BANDS! THIS SET HAS EVERYTHING, GRADE 9/10 INSTRUCTIONS, BOOKLETS, GREAT TRAINS, 1955 HIGH-GRADE BOXES, AND ORIGINAL SET BOX! THE “NEW SUNSHINE SPECIAL FREIGHT” SET IS THE HARDEST SET TO FIND, AS IT WAS ONE OF THE LARGER SETS WITH TWO ENGINES AND SIX PIECES OF ROLLING STOCK. IT ALSO HAS THE GREEN 922 BOXCAR, 920 GONDOLA CAR, 929 MISSOURI PACIFIC CATTLE CAR, 926 GULF TANK CAR, 921 C.B. & O. COAL CAR, AND THE 977 AUTOMATED CONDUCTOR CABOOSE. THE SET ALSO HAS THE ORIGINAL BOXES IN EXTREMLY HIGH-GRADE CONDITION. ALL PIECES ARE ORIGINAL AND WITH NO REPAINT. THE COUPLERS, WHICH USUALLY BREAK OFF, ARE ALL STRONGLY INTACT. THE SET ALSO COMES WITH THE ORIGINAL 1955 ENGINE ROLLED WRAPS, AS SEEN IN THE PHOTO, IN HIGH-GRADE CONDITION. THE SET ALSO COMES WITH THE 706 BOXED UNCOUPLER, AND THE “AMERICAN FLYER DIESEL HORN” CONTROLLER. The 374 and 375 Diesel Engines have the original wheels and rollers ( see photo close-up). They also have the original trim and fantastic finish on the paint. Frames are straight, with no warping, and the units have the nicest roof’s I have seen on a 374/375 pair. All of the rolling stock look Gem-Mint in appearance. They have test-run only on wheels. This is an extremely high-grade set. Due to the condition of the pieces, they are very rare! THE 374 ENGINE AND THE 375 ENGINE ARE MINT- TO MINT CONDITION. THIS IS AMAZING AS THE PAINT IS ALL ORIGINAL! THEY LOOK TEST-RUN ONLY. The set is Circa 1955, RARE MINT/OB’s/ SET BOX/ PAPERWORK. The rest of the set consists of all very high-grade cars with next to no wheel-wear. ALL OF THE PIECES LOOK IN UN-RUN CONDITION!
