ANOTHER TRAIN HIGHLIGHT FOR EBAY FOR THIS WEEK IS THE VERY SCARCE EARLY POST-WAR AMERICAN FLYER SET 1344 “ THE POTOMAC” WITH ELECTRIC ENGINE AND PASSENGER CARS, SITTING IN GRADE 10 BOXES WITH THE RARE SET BOX! THE SET IS NEAR-MINT TO MINT. THE ELECTRIC ENGINE IS NEAR-MINT AND LOOKS TEST-RUN AT MOST. THE AMERICAN FLYER SET 1344 WAS CALLED “THE POTOMAC” AND IS DATED 4-29, AND WAS THE MOST IMPRESSIVE AMERICAN FLYER HEAVY “O” GAUGE ELECTRIC SET. THE SET CAME WITH THE 3116 ELECTRIC ENGINE AND THREE TWO-TONE EMERALD GREEN/ ROOKIE TAN METAL PASSENGER CARS. THE PASSENGER CARS ARE ILLUMINATED AS IS THE ELECTRIC ENGINE. THE SET HAS THE SCARCE AND DESIRABLE “AMERICAN FLYER” TAPE ON THE ENGINE BOX. THIS SET IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND IN THIS HIGH-GRADE CONDITION! THE SET BOXES ARE AN UNBELIEVABLE HIGH-GRADE CONDITION! ****I HAVE NEVER SEEN AMERICAN FLYER BOXES GRADE 10 BEFORE, THIS IS A FIRST!**** THE ENGINE BOX HAS THE TWO ACCORDIAN INSERTS AND THE LIGHT-YELLOW WRAPPING PAPER. THE SET IS SURPRISINGLY WELL MADE AND EXPENSIVE LOOKING, FOR THE TIMES. IT WOULD HAVE COMPETED AGAINST ANY OF THE LIONEL PASSENGER SETS VERY WELL. IN MY OPINION, I THINK THE SET IS HEAVIER IN CONSTRUCTION, MORE DETAILED,, AND HAS A NICER PAINT SCHEME THAN THE LIONEL ELECTRIC PASSENGER SETS FROM THE SAME ERA. SEE ALL OF THE BRASS PLATES, RAILINGS LIGHTS, BELL, AND PANTOGRAPH. Trains are in MINT TO NEAR-MINT condition, wit ... read more
