This is one Scale covered hopper that would be a welcome addition to your train layout. This black American Flyer (AF) "Erie Railroad" Offset Covered Hopper is one super looking freight car. The Erie Railroad ( reporting mark ERIE ) was a railroad that operated in New York State , New Jersey , Pennsylvania , Ohio , Indiana , and Illinois , originally connecting New York City with Lake Erie . Covered hopper cars are used for bulk cargo that must be protected from the elements (chiefly rain) such as grain , sugar , and fertilizer . This covered hopper features metal trucks and axles , with plastic wheels, and spring loaded AF compatible couplers (see photos). There are no marks, scratches, missing or broken parts on this unit. The Road Number ERIE 48602, a Built Date of 1-87 and the Erie name and "diamond" logo, along with numerous other details are proudly displayed on both sides of this covered hopper car. The finish is mint and the lettering is crisp and clear. This S-Scale car is about 7-1/2" in length, including the couplers, although in real life its a little over 41' in length. The covered hopper comes in its original American Flyer windowed box with cardboard insert. The box is in new condition. Don't let this hopper leave you spinning your wheels at the roundhouse.
