An extremely rare American Historical Staffordshire Syllabub or Punch Cup with a view of Harvard University (College) by Job & John Jackson, c. 1830. The brown transfer shows a large building at Harvard with a man on horseback riding along a road in front of the building. The floral border (small flowers on a stippled background) is found on the inside of the flaring rim. The cup is 2 ½" tall and 3 ¼" in diameter at the top; the base is 1 7/8" in diameter. T are no maker's marks, but the transfer matches the one shown on a cup plate on p. 34 of Jeffrey Jackson's book Historical Staffordshire: American Patriots and Views. Sam Laidacker also includes this transfer in his book Anglo American China (Vol. 1, p. 20), but does not include the syllabub or punch cup as one of the known forms. This little syllabub cup is in very fine condition: the color is a rich chocolate brown and the transfer crisp. T are no chips, cracks, lines or repairs. A rare form in a very desirable American Historical Staffordshire Pattern. And the perfect holiday gift for the Harvard Graduate in your life! Buyer prepays, plus postage.
