Up until last year this lovely & very rare Norton Motorcycle Canadian Dealership porcelain enamel sign was part of a private automoblia collection, The assembler of this collection was an avid squirreller away of many great things for over 50 years , in quite a number of areas. Sadly last year he passed on & the task of breaking up his collections fell to his son. At the end of last year I was offered the opportunity to buy this & a number of other signs from the collection. The sign itself is an impressive piece not only for being an original Norton dealership sign , but that it was made specifically for the North American market, as it has the star denoting the States of America on one edge & the Maple Leaf design on the other edge,for the Canadian market . Not something I have ever seen before . My instincts are that it is a 1950s sign, but it could well be earlier. When speaking to the son at the time he recalled it being on the wall as a child in the late 70s. The sign is a very good display size measureing 22x16 inches. It was manufactured in a convex style, so when attached to the wall it sits a little proud. It is a weighty sign with a thick porcelain covering, the Maple Leaf & star as well as all the lettering are in slight relief, so they sit a little proud of the base black porcelain.
