American Primitive Knives 1770 - 1870 by Gordon B. Minnis. This book is new and contain 100 Pages printed in Canada in 1983 by a Museum Restoration Service. Until the advent of this book, those who wanted information on early American hand made knives and daggers could only find bits and pieces in widely scattered sources. Now the whole story in far more depth and detail than ever before, is available in American Primitive Knives, 1770 - 1870. The heart of the book consists of photographs of over 60 outstanding specimens of American primitive knives. Each photo is accompanied by a fully descriptive text, with dimensions, pertinent structural details and notes on dating and provenance w appropriate. This is by far the largest, best illustrated and best described group of theses fascinating implements ever assembled. A third section is devoted to the study of this class of knife from the collector's point of view. Topics covered include possible sources of specimens, hints on conservation and restoration, an entirely new condition guide, and a chapter on fakes.
