c. 1850-1860, attributed to John Henry Belter, New York, the floral and cabochon carved crest on molded C scroll stiles; barrel-form arm supports, serpentine seat, cabriole legs, casters, height 48 in.
Note: The inward facing c-scrolls on this example recall a side chair in the Manney collection, Schwartz, Stanek and True, The Furniture of John Henry Belter and the Rococo Revival, p. 53, pl. 21-21a. A rosewood chair attributed to Belter from the Manney collection with similar tall and waisted barrel back with reticulated stiles is illustrated Ibid, p. 45, pl. 9-9a.
