NICE ROSEWOOD VENEERED AMERICAN 30 DAY WALL CLOCK BY JEROME & CO IN GOOD ORIGINAL CONDITION REQUIRING MINOR ATTENTION. PLEASE NOTE - I HAVE NO TECHNICAL EXPERTISE IN CLOCKS SO ANY DESCRIPTION IS BASED ONLY ON A VISUAL ASSESSMENT OF THE ITEM, THEREFORE, IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT ANY BUYER VIEW THE COMPLETE WRITTEN DESCRIPTION TOGETHER WITH ANY ATTACHED PHOTOGRAPHS BEFORE BIDDING. This is a very nice genuine American Wall Clock that has, I think, a rosewood veneered case. The veneer is in very good condition with only a few light scratches that will easily polish out. The sides and top and bottom are not veneered but stained to match the front rosewood. On the top and bottom there are a few spots of wall decoration paint that will easily come off but in any case these spots are not visible from the front. The front door of the case still has its original latch and is supported on what looks to be the original hinges, all in excellent condition. The front door also still appears to have its original glass as when viewed from an oblique angle it shows a wavy surface, an indication of age, I think. On the lower part of the inside of the case is the original large label identifying the manufacturer and instructions as to how to set up the clock. This label is slightly torn in places but none of the important information is obliterated. Also on the inside back face of the clock the gong is mounted that the strike hammer hits. Through the lower glass it can be seen that the pendulum suspension rod is slightly bent although this does not seem to affect the working of the clock or the attachment of the brass pendulum. The approximate overall dimensions of the case are 26.0 inches tall by 15.25 inches wide and standing 4.0 inches off the wall. The face of the clock is basically square with the actual clock time marked in Roman numerals around the center. The clock face markings are a little faded, most likely due to cleaning over the years but can still easily be read. The black hands are fairly simple and very much true to the period of manufacture. There are two holes in the face for the key to access the winding spigots. Although both pulleys and cords are in place, unfortunately, I only have one weight with this clock so any testing is limited to the time function. The weight I have is the heavy one, I think, being 1080 gms. in weight. When this weight is hung onto the cord the clock, when started, will run for about ten to fifteen minutes. If I manually pull on the strike cord, when the hands are close to an hour, the clock strikes but in a continuous manner with complete disregard to what hour the hands are set on. The cord weight suspension hook is also missing but in comparison to the time side one, it it just a bent wire hook. I think that with a service/clean and a little minor attention this genuine antique American Wall Clock would make a very nice addition to any collection.
