AMERICANS Divided in Revolutionary War 1777 Newspaper * is a complete, genuine historic newspaper with the following title, date and description: THE LONDON CHRONICLE , England, Aug. 9, 1777. * Americans divided * Revolutionary War original from the enemy * Philadelphia taken At the bottom of pg. 1 is a * "Letter form an officer of Rank at Quebec..." which includes: "...in his way to General Burgoyne wtih the account of Philadelphia being taken by Gen. Howe. Nol one doubts the truth of this...we have also a post on Lake Geoge...that Burgoyne's army on the 26th of June was at Putnam's creek...the retreat of the rebels from Ticonderoga is entirely cut off & they must either fight their way through or surrender." with text carrying over to take most of a column on pg. 2, including: "The accounts of the battle between Generals Howe & Washington, so industriously circulated in some of the public prints...A moment's attention will however prove the fallacy of it, for by the accounts from New York...we have advice that Gen. Howe did not leave that place..." & a bit further on is: "...arrival of Gen. Burgoyne; his order is to take the command of the army to cross the lakes...Our army are partly advanced to Lake Champlain...Our naval strength is very great...Gen. Burgoyne says in ten days he shall be against Ticondneroga..." with much more (see photos). An interesting letter begins: "The Americans, whose pride, obstinancy, & folly have brought more calamities on their own heads than ever Pharaoh brought on the Egyptians, are now as much divided as they can be without drawing the sword against one another..." with more. The back page has some bits including: "...he marched under General Howe into the Jerseys with a collected force & had joined Lord Cornwallis; that the whole army had advanced & marched up to Mr. Washington's lines...The account...of Lord Cornwallis being attacked in the Jerseys by Mr. Washington must be premature..."
