Amish Cedar Chest: This was purchased in the Amish Country of Pennsylvania over 20 years ago. I did not purchase it but I have had it for around 20 years, it had been in storage (My Garage), that is all the info I have on the age and origin of the chest. You can still smell the Cedar but not as strong as you would expect, this tells me that it is old. Very well made. Old copper hardware is used that has not even tarnished yet. The Cedar planking on the inside is flawless. I would say that it was handmade. On the inside is Metal tag that has written "Cavalier" and I am assuming that "Cavalier" is the Manufacture.Thier is a lock but no key and any good Locksmith will have one or can make one for a few bucks. The picture in the center depicts an Amish Man and an Amish Woman (Husband & Wife ?) The Picture to the left has the name Sallie, the one to the right has the name Frederick. Some of the Veneer on the lid is missing. The out side needs a good cleaning. The Dimensions are, 18 inches from the bottom of the feet to the top of the lid, 48 inches wide and 18 1/2 deep. The front paintings are similar to The Amish Style of painting and were probably painted by an Amish Artiest. When you look at the pictures you will see a 2x4 under one of the front legs, we put the 2 x 4 under the front leg so you can see the feet and have a better angle read more
