An Antique Wrought Iron Flat Grid Iron

This is a wrought iron flat grid iron. Flat grids were riveted to the side framing bars that extend into legs with round flat (penny feet). Many grid iron would have a handle added, however some were without handles. Thosewithout handles most likely were used to keep pots warm need the fire. I would judge that this particular flat grid iron dates to the early part of the 19th century. It is 9.5" wide x 5" deep x 1.75" high. It is in very good condtion.
