Ancient Stoneware Jug/Pitcher A One Of A Kind Piece Have For The Collector In Your Life! This is a beautiful, primitive jug! Imperfect in shape, with "sloppy" rough look to the bottom. Natural ash glaze at the inside of the mou th & on the shoulders, running down the body & creating a unique design in e arthen shades . The rough stone p eaks out from under the glaze in several areas , creating different textures . I believe this is from the glaze wearing or chipping off in places over the many years . There is no glaze on the inside of the jug beyond the inside lip, which suggests to me that this piece was created before non toxic glazes were implemented. Unsigned, with no markings anywhere on the pi ece. Extremely thick & heavy. Approximately 10" tall, 5 1 /2" across at widest point. In very well kept condition. There is a small chip to one side of the mouthpiece, as pictured. It in no way takes away from the beauty or rarity of this piece. This is an extremely old & rare piece! I've been told that it's possibly from the Muromachi period , which would date it between 1392–1573. I t has not been confirmed though, so I do not guarantee that it is Muromachi.
