In earliest times Seth (Greek for Set) was the patron deity of Lower Egypt. He was the God of fierce storms and chaotic forces. His cult spread by the desert routes and in the second dynasty his name appeared in the king's title. He sometimes symbolized Lower Egypt while Horus represented Upper Egypt. W hen Upper Egypt conquered Lower Egypt Seth became known as the evil enemy of Horus (Upper Egypt's dynastic god). Seth was the brother of Osiris, Isis, and Nephthys, and husband of the latter. Seth is best known for murdering his brother and attempting to kill his nephew Horus.
