Ancient Egyptian tophalf of a gesso painted wooden sarcophagus. Dating: Late Period to Ptolemaic Period. 662 - 34 BC. This item was once sold on an important fair by a dealer of the IADAA for 10.000 Euro. Unfortunately the piece suffered damage during a transport. The handling was bad and the packaging was terrible. Because this piece is build up from multible pieces of wood the pieces of wood came loose and because of that multiple breaklines in the gesso became visible. I have taken this piece to a top restorer and we decided together the best thing to do was to refix the loose components of this mask in such a way it will never come apart again. So it is now solid and can be displayed without any fear something like this will happen again in the future. Personally I do not like hidden restorations, so I decided to only have it make back solid and not fill in and repaint the breaklines. I know other dealers would have gone all the way just to get more money for it. Such is not to my liking. I want my clients to see what they buy and then they can make their own decision if they want to have the breaklines restored away or not. You see what you buy and you can be sure the structure is now 100% solid. Offcourse because of the visible damage t is a very low reserve on this beautiful mask. FOR SHIPPING OUTSIDE THE EUROPEAN
