Ancient Biblical Widow's Mite CoinThis is the famous Widow's Mite coin mentioned in the bible in Mark 12:41 and Luke 21:1. The coin is a genuine bronze coin minted in the Holy Land over 2000 years ago during the reign of Alexander Jannaeus one of the last Jewish Kings before the Roman annexation of Judaea. Most of these coins were very crudely made, usually off center on irregular flans. The resulting coins show minimal imagery. What makes this coin of great historical and religious importance is its two references in the Bible which relate Jesus' observations of a poor widow's exceptional charity. This coin is identical to the ones she would have had. And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. And he called unto him, his disciples, and saith unto them. Verily I say unto you. This poor widow hath cast more in than all they which have cast into the treasury; For all they did cast in of their abundance, but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living - Mark 12:41 See also Luke 21:1The coin is contained in a small folder with the story of the Widow's Mite and a read more
