You are looking at a one of a kind Ancient Creations Roman Intaglio ring set in solid 18K white and yellow gold. Dated from the 1st-5th Centuries AD from the Roman Empire. Ring is size 13 1/2 so it is large and ring weighs 31.8 Grams of 18K solid Gold!! which is alot of gold! It would be hard to find a ring of this magnitude and one that weighs this much! This ring was purchased from Ancient Creations store in Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. It comes with a certificate of Authenticity and Appriasal form which I have included pictures. This ring originally cost $4,695. It is truly a conversation piece and an unbelievable history behind it. The Intaglio, pronounced with a silent "G", was made from a cornelian, also called carnelian stone. Intaglios were an engraved gem that, when pressed into softened wax, yielded an image in belief-the same was as was once used to close or ligitimize letters and douments. The engraving of hard stones were known as early as about 4000 b.c. in Mesopotamia, but the style of typical intaglios, which were usually mounted on rings, was developed by the ancient greeks. Intaglio carving was widely practiced during the Roman times, and again during the Rennaissance, and during the 18th and 19th centuries. The Eagle is the Roman symbol of Power and Might. The Olive Branch symbolizes Peace. Carnelia, Carnelian, or Carnelium is a semi-precious stone. It is said to have the special properties of Healiing and Good Fortune.
