We are Anderson Guitars, a small Luthier business based in Norfolk, England (established in 1987). Most of our builds are commission based, but we sell a few instruments at a knock down price on eBay - there is no money to be made from these eBay sales, but we simply want to prove that £ for £ our British Hand Made Guitars are much better than Chinese mass produced models. Furthermore, our guitars are built with extreme care and offer real quality and value for money that cannot be beaten elsewhere. If you don't believe me take a look at our eBay seller feedback. This instrument, the 'Newscaster' is one of our Masterbuilds, hand crafted from scratch by ourselves here in Norfolk, England. The build was completed in June this year as a prototype and employs our own hand scatter wound ceramic pickups (wax potted). The body is swamp ash, the neck is maple and no polyurethane has been anywhere near this guitar. The body has been finished using many coats of oil and the neck has been completed with clear nitro-cellulose. The whole instrument has a really nice satin finish that allows the tones to ring through. The body has been cut from 2 part swamp ash - book matched centre joined. We bonded it ourselves and left it clamped for nearly 3 weeks before cutting. The body has been treated with 10 coats of 'Tru-Oil' gunstock oil, well sanded between coats and then wax finished. This leaves it with a great looking satin lustre, allowing the grain to show itself at its best. Another benefit is that it can easily & cheaply be refinished in the event of any future damage. All the pickup and control routes have been shielded using conductive paint to help prevent any unwanted noise. The neck has been hand cut from North American maple. There are 22 vintage sized frets (levelled, dressed & polished) on the fretboard and a truss rod that is adjustable from the headstock. The neck has been sprayed with clear nitro-cellulose lacquer - front and back. This offers a great satin finish and should not feel sticky during a gig. The neck is 'C' shaped with a 12 inch radius, which is great for string bending without the risk of choking out. The nut is synthetic bone. Black dot inlays have been applied to the fretboard and top edge. Two butterfly string trees and Schaller style tuners have been fitted to keep the strings in tune. The neck is attached to the body via a chrome plate and held in place with 4 screws. Pickups - these are our own hand wound single coil ceramic pups. They have level poles and have been scatter wound and wax potted. The output is on the 'Hot' side of vintage. In other words you can achieve that vintage 60's sound to anything from the modern day. I am really proud of these pickups as they can handle just about anything you may wish to throw at them from Country to Rock, or Jazz to Blues - with just a little of Heavy Metal thrown in! As is usual, the middle pickup has been reverse wound to help prevent feedback. Controls - 250k pots all round (Volume, Tone for Middle & Tone for Neck), .022k caps on both tone pots and a treble filter on the volume pot. The standard 5 way switch has been enhanced by using a micro toggle switch on the neck pickup that allows all 7 combinations of pickup selection - a vast improvement on the usual 5. All of the controls have been hand wired and mounted on a shielded custom made 'Gold/Pearl' scratch plate (the film remains intact) A vintage style tremolo system with high mass saddles have been fitted and counter balanced by 3 springs to the claw on the underside. The back plate matches the scratch plate. Heavy duty strap pins & quality locks have been fitted (locks not shown in the photos but will be provided). Strings - 10 to 46 gauge - Ernie Ball Slinky Extras - screw in tremolo arm, chrome strap locks, 2 allen keys to adjust the truss rod & saddles and Anderson COA.
