A spiritual treasure, worthy of the treasury of a Cathedral: MAGNIFICENT LARGE ANGEL RELIQUARY WITH RARE RELICS OF THE HAIR OF OUR LADY, THE HOLY FAMILY & IMPORTANT FEMALE SAINTS, Document 1773 One of the most beautiful and precious pieces I ever offered on eBay: A magnificent, large original Baroque gilt wood reliquary, ca. 25 inches (1) in height, with many fine details and a richly decorated foot, crowned by two angel heads (Putti), surrounded by sunrays. Inside, in an oval-shaped theca, sealed with the red wax seal of Fr. Ludovicus Therin Bonesius OFM, Bishop of Bobbio in the Northwest of Italy (near Piacenza) with the threads intact, surrounded by filigree gilt "paperoles" decoration, are the 20 (!) large (!!) precious relics. The reliquary comes with its original document, issued on June 5, 1773 by Bishop Fr. Therin Bonesius. It confirms the authenticity of the precious relics "of the Veil and Hair of the Blessed Virgin Mary" and all the others, "which were enclosed with the proper veneration in an oval-shaped theca ... sealed with our red wax seal" and allows their public veneration. This permission was confirmed on March 12, 1777 for the Diocesis of Mondovi. There, for the next 200 years, this reliquary was kept and venerated in the Rectory of St. Quintino (as we know from the document attached to its twin-reliquary, also listed here on Ebay). Relics with still the original document are extremely rare. Although th red wax seal of a Bishop already confirms the authenticity of the relics, the document is necessary in case you want to donate or inherit your reliquary to your local Parish Church. The reliquary contains one of the rarest relics of Christianity, ex Capillis B.M.V. Of the Hair of the Blessed Virgin Mary A unique item and the rarest of all relics and, next to the Holy Blood, the only First Class Relic we have of a member of the Holy Family. Originally venerated in the Holy House in Nazareth, the Crusaders brought Hair of Our Lady to Italy, either directly from the Holy Land or, after the 4 th Crusade, from Constantinople, where relics of the Hair of Our Lady were also venerated in the Church of Our Lady at the Blachernes, the Imperial Palace. Today, relics of the Hair of Our Lady are venerated in Rome at the Churches S. Maria sopra Minerva; S. Giovanni in Laterano; S. Maria in Campitelli and in the Pontificial Basilica S. Maria Maggiore. Also, in Italy in S. Marco in Venice, S. Domenico in Bologna, S. Antonio at Padua, S. Agostino at Licata, in the Duomo of Messina/Sicily and at the Church of St. Mary in Lucca. The other relics are: Ex velo B.V.M.: Of the Veil of the Blessed Virgin Mary The Veil of Our Lady, a gift of the Magi, was preserved in the Holy House in Nazareth before it was transferred to Constatinople in the 5th Century. There, it became the Palladium of the Imperial City, carried around the city walls in cases of a siege to invoke the Holy Virgin as protectress of Christianity. During the 4th crusade it was taken by an Italian count of the Pescara area and entrusted to the Franciscan Fathers in Assisi, where it is still preserved. Twice year, on August 15th and December 8th, it is exposed for public veneration. St. Anne, Mother of Our Lady, Grandmother of Our Lord St. Joachim, Father of Our Lady, Grandfather of Our Lord St. Joseph, Spouse of Our Lady, Foster Father of Our Lord St. Mary Magdalene, Penitent, Apostle of the Apostles St. Rosa of Lima, Patroness of the Americas (+ 1586) St. Frances of Rome (1384-1440) St. Rose of Viterbo (1234-1252) St. Margaret of Cortona (1247-1297) St. Angela oof Foligno (1248-1309) St. Claire of Montefalco (1268-1308) St. Claire of Assisi (1194-1253) St. Catherine of Genova (1447-1510) St. Juliana Falcone St. Catharine dei Ricci (1522-90) S...
