Angels With Dirty Faces (Warner Brothers, 1938). French Grande (47" X 63"). One of the cornerstone films of the gangster genre, this movie had everything going for it: a top-notch cast, including James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, Pat O'Brien and the Dead End Kids, a compelling storyline about two childhood friends whose paths diverge dramatically, and an electrifying ending that film aficionados still discuss to this day. The result was three Academy Award nominations, and a film that is every bit as watchable today as it was when it was released. Original release paper on this title is extremely scarce, and avidly sought after by collectors, and this pre-war French Grande is no exception. It displays only the most minor flaws, including pinholes in the corners, fold wear and some slight crossfold separation, but professional restoration has addressed these minor concerns.
